Bye NYC, Hi Again Utah!

I've lived in NYC for 3 years and 3 months. I'm moving back to Utah this weekend, where I lived for over 5 years when I attended/graduated from Brigham Young University. You can say I'm coming full-circle. I have been ready to leave NYC for almost 2 years but it's still a huge adjustment and writing these lists helps me mentally prepare for my next chapter of living life to the fullest!

What I’ll miss about NYC

  • My amazing friends
  • All the concerts
  • Broadway shows
  • Variety of dance studios and events
  • Diversity of people
  • Waterfronts
  • Tall lush trees
  • Reading on the subway
  • Cool factor of living in NYC
  • People-watching in parks
  • My career counseling job - resumes, workshops, newsletters, boss, intern
  • Beautiful diverse historic architecture
  • Professional opportunities

What I’m excited about in Utah
  • Wearing white sneakers and not getting stepped on in the subway
  • Buying a standing desk
  • Singing in the car
  • Being able to own and ride a bike
  • Having space in my home to dance, exercise, and do cartwheels & handstands
  • Less likely to hear profanity or Lord’s name in vain
  • Less likely to see immodesty and profane media
  • Get out of my comfort zone and into nature
  • No sticky humidity in the summer
  • Being surrounded by people with similar social, religious and moral values
  • Cheaper food and rent
  • Being able to meet datable Mormon men and go on dates in person, not having to rely on online dating
  • Being able to hang out with old friends
  • Working at BYU - feeling the spirit of campus everyday and working with undergrads
  • Teaching opportunities - career exploration, dance, business communications
  • Easier and cheaper access to ballroom dancing
  • 2 temples nearby
  • Clean streets
  • Cheaper flight tickets to visit home
  • Cheaper movie tickets
  • Clean stand-up comedy
