If you're ever feeling a little lost in life, I suggest doing this exercise...
Make a list of all the identities you hold for yourself. Then from there, assess what's missing and what you want to change. Use this list to make decisions that feel authentic to you and align with your purpose in life. Or use it to create goals and find meaning in life. Then in a few years, when you feel the need to make another list, compare the lists and see how you're doing.
It's been 3 years since I've done this exercise.
I see myself now as:
- A Mormon
- A daughter of God
- A daughter [of earthly parents]
- A sister
- A friend
- A dancer
- A singer
- A pianist
- A student
- A higher education professional
- An editor
- A New Yorker
- A Seattlelite
- A BYU alum
- An American history nerd
- A jazz lover
- A bookworm
- An extroverted introvert
- A people lover
- A Chinese American
- An American
- An ENFJ
- An optimist
- A leader
- A journal keeper
- A blogger
I also want to become:
- A wife
- A mother
- A grandmother
- A college career counselor
- A college instructor
- A senior missionary
