Why I Love Career Counseling

Almost all of us have to work to earn a living somehow. I am extremely grateful I can get paid to do a job in which I find so much joy, satisfaction, and energy. Everyday, I'm fulfilling my personal mission statement - "To inspire and empower others to reach their goals and fulfill their potential."

  • I get to help people articulate and organize their thoughts and feelings.
  • I get to help people tell their stories and unify them into a more coherent identity.
  • I get to help people clarify confusion in what they want and why they want it.
  • I get to help people recognize and express their strengths.
  • I get to help validate people's frustrations, disappointments, and weaknesses.
  • I get to help people dispel their fears with preparation and tools, and re-channel it into excitement.
  • I get to help people turn their passions and interests into a fulfilling career path.
  • I get to help people map out the next steps in their career plans.
  • I get to see people's growth and accomplishments.
  • I get to share useful and unuseful strategies I've tried in the past.
  • I get to pass on knowledge I've gained.
  • I get to utilize my favorite skills - empathy, verbal communication, organize feelings/thoughts/words/tasks, teach, mentor, and encourage.
Almost all of them start with "I get to help..." This is because my goal is to empower people to be confident, self-sufficient, and independent. My aim is never to create dependency, boast of my own expertise, or exercise power. I only feel selfish because I get so much joy from helping others discover and fulfill their potential. :)
